Persian (Tajik) Summer Program

Hosting Location: Tajikistan
Program Dates: Six to eight weeks, late-June to mid-August
Class Hours: 120 hours
Accommodation: Group housing in a camp setting and host family stays
Academic program: The program seeks to rapidly increase students’ Persian vocabulary and their ability to communicate with confidence in the target language. Persian instruction will focus on the following four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. The program includes in-class language instruction, cultural presentations and activities, volunteer work, and host family stays. Living with host families and communicating with local peers offers participants unique opportunities to utilize their language skills and gain insights into traditional Tajik culture.
Good to know: Standard Persian is divided into three modern varieties: Farsi in Iran, Dari in Afghanistan, and Tajik in Tajikistan; the Persian summer program will focus on the Tajik dialect of Persian. Due to its Soviet past, Tajik is written in Cyrillic, so participants will learn to read both Cyrillic and Persian script.
Program implemented by: American Councils
